What Is IV Dental Sedation

Intravenous sedation, or gentle anesthesia, is the best sedation option for those with high levels of fear and anxiety. For some patients, nitrous oxide or an oral sedative may be all that is needed to alleviate anxiety. At The Dentistry, the anti-anxiety methods are customized to each individual. However, there are circumstances in which gentle anesthesia or IV sedation is the best option.

Patients with special needs, extreme cases of dental fear, or those undergoing complex procedures like wisdom tooth removal or other oral surgery procedures, are candidates for IV sedation.

What to Expect

A board-certified anesthesiologist will administer the IV sedation. You will discuss the specific details of your dental sedation with your dentist before your appointment.

Often, using dental anesthesia can help with post-operative pain as well, by continuing to keep your body relaxed for several hours after your procedure.

If necessary, the doctor will prescribe the appropriate pain relievers. We want not only for you to have a good experience while at the office, but while you are recovering also.
